About Us

GypsyJazz.net imports and distributes CDs, DVDs, videos, books, magazines, guitar accessories, guitar parts, guitars (both new and used), and art from various sources in the United States and Europe.

Our goal is to offer you the most comprehensive worldwide resource for gypsy jazz music, both traditional (as embodied by the virtuoso playing style of Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France) and modern (with established players like Angelo Debarre, Romane, Bireli Lagrene, Fapy Lafertin, Dorado Schmitt and new generation players like Jimmy Rosenberg, Joscho Stefan, Yorgui Loeffler - to name a few). We also offer traditional and modern French musette (what gypsy guitarist Boulou Ferre calls the French bebop) as well as some of the most interesting precursors and off-shoots of gypsy jazz music, with players like John Jorgenson and Robin Nolan. We also offer a comprehensive resource of instructional, concert, and biographical materials, guitar parts and accessories, as well as featured new and used instruments (mainly Selmer/Maccaferri guitars) from domestic and internationally based guitar makers.

Our site also contains informational resources (like guitar workshops, festival updates, biographical articles on gypsy jazz artists, and referrals for teachers of gypsy jazz guitar). Our site will also host a community forum for gypsy jazz players and enthusiasts worldwide. We hope you take advantage of these features and welcome any input on how we can improve our website.

GypsyJazz.net is owned and operated by Alain "Pappy" Cola. Alain was born in Toulon, France and caught the gypsy jazz bug back in 1971, when he listened to Paul "Tchan Tchou" Vidal playing in small clubs along the French Mediterranean coast. In 1998, he and guitar maker John Kinnard began a partnership known as Dell Arte Instruments, which specializes in making hand crafted reproductions of Selmer/Maccaferri type guitars and guitar parts. Alain also plays rhythm guitar as part of the gypsy jazz group the Hot Club of San Diego. He loves to talk about gypsy jazz and is well versed in the history, the music, the guitars, and the players - both in Europe and the United States. So please feel free to contact him via CUSTOMER SERVICE if you have any questions about gypsy jazz or the products and informational items on this site.
